This title comes from a cheese competition held during the Congress of Vienna in 1814-1815, convened to unify Europe after Napoleon’s defeat. Brie de Meaux emerged victorious from among over 60 cheeses, and the then Austrian Chancellor Metternich stated: “Brie is truly the king of cheeses, and also the finest dessert.” Its flavor features hints of truffle and almond, making it a suitable pairing for champagne, Bordeaux red wine, or Burgundy red wine.
